It took a few minutes just to figure out which mysterious icon to press to activate the iPhone camera to scan a QR code displayed on the Wikipedia donation page. Most normal people just would not bother with the perplexing hassle. It took around an hour, and I had to exercise patience and perseverance and prior technical expertise. So I downloaded the Bitpay wallet app, set it up, transferred some bitcoin into it, and then made the donation to Wikipedia. They don't let you see the bitcoin address, so you can't pay from a generic bitcoin wallet. This year, I discover that Wikipedia is using Bitpay to accept bitcoin donations, and Bitpay uses something called the BIP70 payment protocol, to prevent errors.
